Strategic Projects

Helping Swedish companies secure major international contracts and export opportunities

What is a Strategic Project?

Strategic Projects are large-scale international investments and business opportunities where Swedish companies can contribute with innovative solutions, world-leading technology, and specialist expertise.

These projects and deals are often complex and long-term in nature, and of significant value to both participating companies and Sweden's export agenda.

Typical sectors include:

  • Energy and electrification
  • Transport and infrastructure
  • Healthcare and life science
  • Digital infrastructure and connectivity
  • Mining and critical raw materials
  • Industrial transformation

A coordinated Swedish export offering

Winning major international projects often requires more than a competitive solution. It requires access to expertise, financing, networks, and institutional support. Through Team Sweden, Swedish companies can benefit from a coordinated national effort that brings together government agencies, financial institutions, embassies, and business promotion organisations.

Business Sweden works closely with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Swedish embassies, EKN, SEK, Swedfund, and other Team Sweden partners to strengthen Swedish companies' ability to compete for major international contracts and investment projects.

Different types of Strategic Projects

Depending on the maturity of the opportunity and contract, Business Sweden works with different categories of strategic projects.

Strategic Project Opportunities (SPO)

Early-stage opportunities where Swedish solutions can be positioned before procurement processes or investments have been formally launched.

These opportunities often have long lead times and can evolve into major business projects over time.

High Potential Opportunities (HPO)

Large international business opportunities with significant potential for Swedish industry.

These projects are characterised by high complexity, substantial commercial value, and a strong strategic interest for Sweden. A coordinated Team Sweden approach can significantly improve the chances of success.

EPC Projects

Large infrastructure and industrial developments where Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors play a central role.

These projects often require extensive stakeholder engagement, international partnerships, and financing solutions, creating substantial opportunities for Swedish suppliers and technology providers.
